Are You Listening?

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt a tug in your heart to do something out of the ordinary to help someone, or felt compelled to speak a kind word to a complete stranger, or even a friend? And you wonder, "Is this God, or just me?" How can I be sure? Let’s just say the devil will never ask anyone to do something “good.” You may think that hearing Gods voice has to be this profound encounter, where the heavens open up, or you see a burning bush. On the contrary, many times, He uses even the simplest of things to make a big impact. Like the whisper of that "still small voice."

Are you listening? Will be one of the themes I'll be focusing on over these next few months. I plan to share with you the experiences I've had as a result of being obedient to the voice of my heavenly Father, and pray it will encourage you, and help you in your journey of listening to God!

A few years ago, God had laid a person on my heart to pray for them, and one night not long after that, I was awoken from my sleep to pray. As I began to pray, I knew these words of encouragement were for the lady I was praying for earlier, and also felt I needed to write out what I was praying. I told myself, that if I got the opportunity I would share it with her.

I didn’t really know much about her situation, and so I began to doubt whether or not I should give it. What if I’m way off base? I'll look stupid! However, in my heart I felt a tug that I could not ignore, and I knew it was God, and not just me. It was only a matter of days until our paths crossed. When we sat together I had the opportunity to share my heart and give her these words…

"God showed me that you were in a room, but in this room there were no walls just wide open space. I felt that God wants to help you see that you are free when you put your trust in Him. He wants you to trust in Him.” Then, I ended the letter quoting this song. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Nothing will I fear as long as you are near, please be near me to the end."

Immediately after reading this letter, she jumped to her feet and embraced me. With tears in her eyes she repeated, “He’s real! He’s real! God is real!” She continued to tell me, that she had been struggling, and questioned if God was even real. She remembered back to when she was a teenager. She told me that any time she would get down or discouraged, she would sing that song I've quoted here, to the top of her lungs, and would always feel God’s presence. She continued to share, that somewhere along the way, she lost sight of who God was, and convinced herself that God wasn’t real. “I have never told anyone about that,” she said, and here you've written it in this letter to me! “This could only be God!”

What is God saying to you? It could be something as simple as buying a coffee, or offering a word of encouragement? No matter how small or insignificant you may think it is, I believe it is very important for us to listen and to be obedient in what God is asking us to do. Keeping in mind that even though you might not always see the results of your obedience, remember each time you obey the voice of God, your faith will grow. The next time you feel that tug on your heart to do something good for someone, remember you have the power to change a life.

The Lord God gave me the ability to teach. He has taught me what to say to make the weak strong. Every morning he wakes me. He teaches me to listen like a student.

Isaiah 50:4 (ICB)

Seeds that fall on good soil will yield crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

Luke 8:8

I also wanted to share this video with you, it's about a man who took a step of faith, and risked "looking stupid." Trust me when you hear this story, you will be challenged to think twice before dismissing that "still small voice."

Are you listening?

p.s At the end of this video it asks you to forward to a friend, that is not necessary, but if you feel to share it with someone, by all means go ahead.
